Hello! This is Chuck, the creator of the Box Elder Public Library ARG.

First: this is a fictional story! I made up the characters, setting, events and situations as part of a fictional story. Oliver is not a real person. Oliver is not in any danger. If you are genuinely worried or distressed that someone is trapped in an abandoned library, please do not be! I'm sorry!

Second: thank you, more than I can ever say, for reading/playing along. It was a wonderful experience with everyone who "visited the library". I do have some specific thanks to give some specific people, and here is some of that thanks.

  • To Mom and Dad. I love you.

  • To Savannah and Alex. I love you.

  • To David and Katie and everyone else who let me sneak into the theatre room. You know who you are. Never a goodbye, always a see you soon.

  • And to you. Thank you for visiting. Come back any time.

Third: PLEASE ALSO BE AWARE that as of the end of this ARG in September 2022, the website's chatbot and email inbox are CLOSED. This is not part of the game. I might look at the inbox sometimes, but I can no longer guarantee a reply and will not answer in-game questions, correspond as Oliver or otherwise help you play the game. Have fun! Explore! Try things! Put pieces together across collections as you go!

If you have out-of-game questions about the writing or development of the game, you can email me here!

More gifts for you:

1) In the interest of transparency, I came up with the idea of using existing archetypes as characters with original relationships in an original story, which is what you have just experienced. The concept of using the specific animals involved as human conflict archetypes is not my idea. I got it from the handout below, which got it from this book.

2) Another place to go. This is Story Storage, the website/blog I will use for the foreseeable future as a hub for my other writing projects. If you liked "Box Elder Public Library", you will probably find something else that you like there, too.

3) A mood board Tumblr blog. THIS MOOD BOARD CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR THE WHOLE STORY, INCLUDING THE ENDING.

4) A retrospective write-up about the project with notes about production and the major plot points. THIS RETROSPECTIVE CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR THE WHOLE STORY, INCLUDING THE ENDING.

5) A background music EP with music from across the site and bonus tracks

2020-2022 Box Elder Public Library.
